The best known sparkling wine is champagne, which is produced exclusively in the Champagne region in France.  However, sparkling wines are made in many other regions of France as well as other countries around the world.  In Europe, these wines are often called by their local name or region such as Cava from Spain or Asti and Prosecco from Italy.  In the US sparkling wines are not referred to by place but rather generically as sparkling wine

where region is noted on the label.
